This date icon, to be found throughout the site, confirms the date to which page information has been updated. First of August is commonly used to indicate which season’s records are included.

Pages in this site relating to the relative age of players are accurate for all those players where their date of birth is known. There are, however, a number of Boro players appearing prior to the second world war whose birth date is still under research.

Data throughout the site relates to first class games played by Middlesbrough Football Club. It includes F.A.Cup games, Football League games commencing in 1899 up to the present day, League Cup games and Uefa Cup ties. An exception is that data does not include 3 matches played at commencement of season 1939/40 after which league football was suspended for the second world war. Discounted as contributing to worthwhile achievements are friendly games, Anglo-Scottish Cup (although we won it), Simod Cup (although we reached the Wembley final), Freight Rover Trophy, and other short duration competitions sometimes taken seriously by the competing clubs. Ok! A penalty decider in the Freight Rover Trophy is included in a list of such team separating techniques in knock-out competitions.

League descriptors have, regrettably, changed in recent years. Today’s division one is yesteryear’s division 3!
