The accomplishment of Gary Parkinson with a run of 78 games on the bounce is worthy of special attention and not just because it all started at a Boro home game played against Port Vale at Hartlepool’s ground.
Players with a lengthy consecutive run from their first Boro game will be seasoned professionals bought in as experienced footballers. Not so young Gary, his run started with his first game as a professional footballer anywhere. He kicked off in August 1986 as an 18 year old when Boro did not have possession of their own ground and played every minute of 1986/87 season and then through to December 1987 without missing a game.
