SUBSTITUTIONS
Up To the mid 1960s substituting a player was not allowed. The eleven who started the game were all that would play in it. If a player went off injured then the team were down to 10 men. It was the similar with players having a nightmare game, they just stayed on to the end.
But then in 1965 things changed. Listed below is the slow progressive development of substitutions from the initial injury replacements up to today’s position.
