In 25 UEFA Cup games Boro played 17 teams from 13 countries. Riverside Stadium  hosted 12 games with the 13 away trips being to 10 countries. Boro travelled twice to 3 countries (Greece, Netherlands, and Switzerland). The only city to offer two teams has been Rome with Lazio and Roma who both failed to halt Boro’s advance.

The ‘away goals’ rule for progression in 2-legged knockout ties was called upon twice and in both cases to Boro’s favour in leaving behind Stuttgart and Roma.
