KILLED September 1944 -  Died in action in the Army in the Middle East. Rank not stated

It has happened twice that football has been suspended whilst the country was at war. The four seasons 1915/16 to 1918/19, inclusive were not played during the course of the Great War.  The Second World War caused greater disruption. Three games were played in 1939/40 before it was all abandoned with a total of seven seasons lost up to resumption for the 1946/47 season. The 11 initial players listed at area ‘A’ played for Middlesbrough before and after the earlier  hostilities and 8 either side of the later war.
