Boro’s trips into serious European competition have, so far, been confined to two Uefa Cup entries in the successive seasons 2004/05 and 2005/06. Entry qualification being initially as winners of the League (Carling) Cup on 29th February 2004 and the following season by finishing in 7th place in The Premiership. Although a new adventure for Middlesbrough the team did exceptionally well in reaching the ‘Round of 16’ in 2004/05 and then all the way to the final itself on 10th May 2006. Over the two seasons Boro played no fewer than 25 European games.
