THE CLEVELAND FOOTBALL
ASSOCIATION.
-------
On Saturday evening a meeting of representatives of Tees-side and North Riding Football Clubs was held at the Swatters’ Carr Hotel, Middlesbrough, for the purpose of joining the Cleveland Football Association. On the motion of Mr J. Reed, Ald. Dunning said he had very great pleasure in presiding over the meeting, because he thought every Englishman fond of sport ought to assist young men in carrying out old-fashioned English games.
In conclusion, he would move that the Cleveland Football Association be formed. Mr J. Ewbank (captain of the Middlesbrough club) seconded the proposition. He said there were 20 clubs in the district, 12 to 16 of which it was expected would join the Cleveland Association. Next year they hoped to offer a challenge cup worth £100. (Applause.) -- Mr W. Harrison (Redcar) supported the proposition, which was carried unanimously. --On the motion of Mr Ewbank, seconded by Mr Howcroft, the Association rules were adopted. --Mr J. Reed was elected secretary. --A letter was received from the Duke of Cleveland, who said that the game of football was worthy of support. --Seven clubs were enrolled as belonging to the Association. --The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
